Trump wins Iowa caucus: What this means for Halley and DeSantis

In a historic moment, Donald Trump won the Iowa caucus at 51%. The first a GOP candidate has gained more than 50% of votes. DeSantis and Halley were neck and neck when it came to the race, however DeSantis beat Halley for second with 21.2% of the votes while Halley came in third with 19.1%. This has left supporters for both Halley and DeSantis to wonder what this will mean and what their GOP candidate will do next.

Although Halley congratulated Trump on his win, she remarked on how 70% of Americans do not want Trump or Biden to win. She continued to cite that she believes America needs a new generational leader that isn’t motivated by vengeance and is of a younger caliber. On an interview with CBS Mornings, she said that, “I’m going to be the next president…that we [need to] leave the chaos of the past and we [need to] move forward with the solutions of the future.” She continued by remarking that although she came in third she feels confident about her standing in New Hampshire and North Carolina.

Still optimistic, DeSantis says that he’s “earned his ticket out of Iowa.” However, with the disparity of the polls between DeSantis and former President Trump, questions are being raised as to whether he has the momentum and funding to compete with the former POTUS leader.

However, in his closing remarks, DeSantis continues to give hope to his supporters by saying: “We have a lot of work to do, but I can tell you this as the next President of the United States, I am going to get the job done for this country. I am not going to make any excuses and I guarantee you this. I will not let you down.”
