UK Fashion Brand The Vampire’s wife closes down

The renowned UK occasion-wear fashion brand, The Vampire’s Wife, will cease operations and trading. The brand made the announcement on its website on Tuesday, expressing gratitude to clients and fans for their support.

“Despite a period of positive growth and sales,” the message read, “the upheaval in the wholesale market has had dramatic implications for the brand. The Vampire’s Wife would like to express heartfelt thanks to all clients, partners, and those who have worn the brand over the last 10 years. Your support has been invaluable, and we are deeply grateful.”

The brand also noted that it would hold a final sale during the weekend at London’s Mayfair.

According to Elle, The Vampire’s Wife received a winding-up petition from the UK’s tax authority HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) last year due to debt accrued during the pandemic. Although the brand lost around £2.1 million during the pandemic, it recovered £5.1 million in 2022. It was thought that after settling its debt with HMRC, the brand had fully recovered from its financial troubles.

A second statement was released by the brand’s founder, Susie Cave, on Instagram shortly thereafter.

“After ten years as the Creative Director of The Vampire’s Wife, it is time to say goodbye. I say this with great sadness and want to express my undying gratitude to you all for your support. I wish to thank my extended family at The Vampire’s Wife who helped me create such beautiful things. I cannot describe how much you have all meant to me,” Cave said.

Founded in 2016, The Vampire’s Wife quickly gained popularity with celebrities within and outside of the UK. The brand was well-known for its gothic style. Some notable celebrities who have worn the brand’s clothing include Holly Willoughby, Rachel Weiss, Daisy Edgar Jones, Sandra Oh, Florence Welch, Sienna Miller, and royalty like Kate Middleton.
