Underrated TV Shows (Op-Ed)

We all have our favorite shows—those we binge-watch and rewatch to see beloved characters on screen. However, a few underrated gems are waiting to capture your heart.

“Ghosts” is available on Paramount+. Spanning three seasons, it stars Rose McIver from “iZombie” and former rapper Utkarsh Ambudkar. The show follows Sam, who inherits her grandmother’s mansion and with it a diverse array of ghosts spanning different periods. After surviving a fall down the stairs, Sam gains the ability to see these ghosts. Audiences learn to adore each ghost for their quirky traits and enjoy watching them evolve as they rediscover the world they left behind.

“Elsbeth” is currently on Hulu with one season. This drama stars Carrie Preston as Elsbeth Tascioni, an attorney with unique observational skills that aid her in solving crimes in collaboration with the NYPD. Elsbeth may be eccentric, but her character grows on viewers, who find humor, love, sadness, and inspiration in her journey.

“Black Mirror” gained popularity during the 2020 pandemic but has since been overlooked. This series spans six seasons, each episode a standalone drama exploring metaphors and paranoia related to contemporary issues. A standout favorite of mine is Season 3, Episode 5, featuring a gripping tale of future soldiers protecting villagers from supposed mutants. The episode challenges perceptions and leaves viewers speechless.

“Six” tells the story of Navy Seal Team 6 during a 2014 mission. Over its two seasons, viewers witness these military men face challenges on and off the battlefield, showcasing their humanity amidst heroic feats. The show captivates with its portrayal of sacrifice, camaraderie, and personal struggles.

Countless TV shows are waiting to be discovered and cherished; these are just a few of my favorites.
