We are old enough to know better as a people

Last night my pal and former NY Yankee batboy Luis Squeegee Castillo sent me a picture of his baby and my Godson Zyair.

Minutes before I had received a text from a good friend who works for the Department of Homeland Security. He had told me that he had to go to Washington for obvious reasons.

Homeland Security honored me in 2010 for my community service and we have maintained a good relationship with people there. It’s incredible how baseball can bring people together.

As I stare at the picture of Z ( Zyair ) I wonder if he is going to have a future. I fear for him and all the children of the world.

A week ago I was nervous because of all the violence in the streets. All the lack of love. I wondered if we could help New York get it together.

Now I am scared not just for New York or America, but the world.

I wonder how a human being can look at a little child and say I love you one minute and cause destruction and harm the next.

What’s happening in the world is very very serious.

As a people, we must come together here in America first. We must stop all the negative activities in our streets and come together as a people.

I’m old enough to remember the Cuban missile crisis in the 60s and how scared my parents and the people of our city were.

For approximately 10 days we came together as a people and gave our President (John Kennedy) our full support.
Whether we like our president or not we must support him because at the moment he is our leader.

I beg of all of you to please, please remember Z and all of the children of the world. They are the ones that are going to be mentally and spiritually hurt at the end of the day.

As I always say… in the immortal words of the Beatles … All you need is LOVE!
