Chisholm will be true Jazz for Bronx kids, Omar too!

In a tradition started by George Steinbrenner in 2004, Jazz Chisholm will visit CS 55. It was formerly known as PS 55 when the Boss stepped foot on one of the poorest schools in the country.

At that time the rookie Principal was a teacher named Luis Torres.

Luis for weeks asked me if I could bring the fabled Boss because as the Principal put it, it would send shockwaves throughout the school system when they found out that George Steinbrenner actually was there.

Well, it worked. Principal Torres became a force to be reckoned with. From that year on some of the biggest stars of sports and entertainment have come to visit the kids of PS/CS 55.

A. Rod. Roberto Alomar , CC Sabathia Bernie Williams Gleyber Torres etc.

The first thing that all visitors notice when they walk into the building is a letter that Mr. Steinbrenner sent the children of the school for motivation. It is screwed into the wall for all to appreciate.

Jazz Chisholm will be a very special guest not just because he is a Yankee, but because he has an enthusiasm that the kids will truly appreciate.

He is the type of individual that 20 years from now when those kids are adults they will still be talking about this upcoming visit.

I truly look forward to this visit even more so because Jazz will be accompanied by Yanks executive and the first Latino general manager in baseball history Omar Minaya.

Jazz will be the honorary Principal and Omar will be the assistant principal.

It will be a fun day for the kids however I think Principal Torres will probably have more fun… he always does.
