2024 has brought a ton of new ideas for horror films. Many of these movies had creative and unique storylines that I could never have imagined otherwise. With Spooky Season in full swing let’s take a look at the top three horror movies of the year so far.
3. TRAP
M. Night Shyamalan’s latest feature has maybe the most unique storyline of any movie in 2024. The movie follows a father and daughter who are going to a concert. We later find out the concert is a trap for a serial killer who was said to be attending the event. The audience goes along for the ride as we watch the killer try and escape the concert without being caught by security. The suspense and deaths in this movie are awesome, and it gives us one of the best twist endings of anything I’ve seen this year
2. Longlegs
Nicholas Cage steals the show in this horrifying showcase, providing some true nightmare fuel. The movie opens with a flashback, then the audience is quickly taken back to the current day. Without spoilers, the movies go full circle as well as we follow FBI agent Perkins and her connection to the killer (played by Cage). With some terrifying moments and a Shyamalan-esque twist, many have compared this to “The Silence of the Lambs”. I enjoyed it and saw the similarities, but the movie’s less-than-stellar ending was the only thing I felt was subpar and is the reason this didn’t land at number one.
1. Abigail
I went into “Abigail” with pretty low expectations and was truly blown away. I thought the overall production of the film was so well done, and each character was developed perfectly for what was a relatively short picture. For horror fans who love gore, I highly recommend giving it a watch as what feels like 90% of the movie is filled with blood and guts. It had some laugh-out-loud moments, while also keeping the feeling of suspense alive as we watch a group of people attempt to survive a weekend in a house with a vampire. It had me entertained from start to finish and that’s why it is my number one must-watch horror film of the year.
