I believe that this should be the Yankee’s theme song this season.
They have dealt with the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. Every time that they seem like they can’t go any further a different player steps up and takes them to the next level.
It started with Gleyber Torres and as he started to fade Juan Soto picked up the ball. Our gold glove shortstop Anthony Volpe had a great start and really helped plant us in first place. When he tired Aaron Judge’s bat woke up and he drove the wagon towards the home stretch. By the time we got to the playoffs, Torres had been implanted into the lead-off role in the batting order and became a major reason for the Yankees staying on top. In this round of the playoffs against Kansas City, Giancarlo Stanton was the sleeping giant who woke up and crushed the Kansas City bad boys. The homer in game three and the big RBI single in the deciding game were fabulous. Again I have to really pat Gleyber on the back for his offensive heroics. In game four he led off the game with a double and scored on Juan Soto’s single and he would drive in the second run with a line single to right with what would be the deciding run.
Gerrit Cole did exactly what he was brought to the Yankees to do, win the big game. He pitched seven strong innings. He kept to his master plan of pitching the pesky Royals and it worked to perfection. The bullpen again came through with Clint Holmes holding them down in the eighth and the surging Luke Dream Weaver blowing them away in the ninth.
I have to agree with most that Aaron Judge should be the American League MVP however where the Yankees are today has been a total team effort. I must also add that a Yankees Met World Series is something that could and would be fabulous not just for New York but for all of baseball.
