It seems like every new bit of information we get about GTA 6 has been for the worse. The continuous delays and overwhelming prices have strained the hype for the game that promises so much to the consumers. Now, there is a new worry for gamers, as there have been confirmed leaks showing that Rockstar will implement ID verification in the menus before anyone can play the game.
By the sounds of it, the game will block players from playing the online and story modes until it is presented with an age verification. This requirement feels like a huge invasion of privacy and will certainly turn away those who fear having their information registered.
The whole point of this push by Rockstar is to stop children from playing their games, but they could easily use their parents’ IDs or even get fake ones. Furthermore, it shouldn’t be on companies to protect kids from mature content. Parents need to be the ones to set boundaries with their children and ensure that whatever they are playing or watching is appropriate. There are already ratings in place for games to display how old one must be to play them. Just because some parents don’t pay attention to these things doesn’t mean everyone else has to pay for it.
Honestly, these changes have turned me against buying GTA 6 when it eventually comes out. I’m sure the game will be fantastic, but I don’t want to sell out my information just to play it. Hopefully, Rockstar decides to overturn these changes and put the responsibility on parents to protect their kids from mature content.
