You’re watching a friend play a game or even simply just chatting with them about a game and you ask the simple question, “Is the game fun?” and instead of a simple yes or no, they say, “You’d have to play it yourself,” and for some people, that answer is a valid one, and you just shrug and agree and make a mental note to try it yourself in the future. For me, I hate that answer. I mean, there are certain genres that I hate. I can see a game’s gameplay and instantly know if I would like it or not. I mean that is the point of YouTubers doing let’s plays.
The argument can only go so far because you can’t tell someone who hates shooters that they will love playing whatever shooter you are suggesting they should check out, unless it’s, of course, like the difference between Call of Duty and Far Cry 4, because one is very competitive and one is mostly one player, with the ability to play with another person if you want to.
I personally hate competitive games, and the game has to have a good story, decent graphics, and enough challenge but not so much that I want to throw my controller at my TV. (laughs) I even would say some of my favorites don’t need that argument. They are just great because they are classics, such as the Legend of Zelda series, and obviously, that is just my opinion. But I think everyone should try it, as it revolutionized the 3D of video games.
Either way, I can say that the argument works for some games and does for other games. It also depends on the player and what they enjoy playing, and what features they require in a game that they are considering. A big thing that turns people away from a game is the use of AI. If the creator uses AI to generate assets, that is one thing, but to make it completely with AI is morally wrong.
Either way, games are meant to be creative and fun!
