Inventory Management Shouldn’t Feel Like Doing Chores

So, you are excited about a new game, you set it up and get through the boring tutorial and finally have control over your player. You know how these types of life sim rpgs work and hoard everything you can find but there is one problem.

You make a chest and put some stuff in and then quickly realize that everything is mixed in with everything. You go on an adventure to gather some things but quickly run out of inventory space and it’s quickly feeling like a chore.

It can be as simple as Skyrim when you are holding too many swords or somehow have too many potions. Or it can be where items don’t stack and every single item takes a space and that gets really annoying especially when it has qualities and you have 4 spaces filled up with the same item just different qualities.

Inventory management is especially annoying when you are playing the now popular genre called “tidy up” games. These have you in a store, mall bunker, pretty much anything you can imagine and you give you at first a limited number of items that you can hold. You quickly fill up the shelves and eventually have enough to buy skills to hold more items or other quality of life such as items similar to the ones in your hand glow.

What all these need to work on is what Pokémon has done with their inventory system. They have a main inventory but then it has categories for poke balls, potions, TMs, berries in the later games and more and that is what these other games need, a way to organize everything you get and not be tied down by a weight limit or at least have a limited amount that you can have in each section rather than in all.

Luckily in a lot of games there are mods, if they are on PC, that help you with things like this and make life easier. Luckily real life isn’t like inventory management in video games.
