The Many Substitutes for Plain Water

Let’s admit it: water is not always fun to drink. As vital as it is for us to consume water every day, many people prefer the various tastes and ingredients that drinks like soda and coffee provide. There is a trade-off either way you look at it, but it doesn’t have to be. There are many substitutes and products available to enhance the taste of water while providing a healthier alternative.

Even though there is technically no “substitute” for actual water, there are variations that provide unique tastes and nutritional benefits. Coconut water is one such example. The water found inside a coconut not only has the same effect of hydration as normal water, but it also contains natural sugars and calories that help replenish electrolytes. There are also many kinds of tablets and packets that one can mix into water to give the same attributes, as well as making the water itself taste like all sorts of flavors. Even some energy drinks can be a good way to energize your body for the day.

Sparkling water is another alternative that gives the classic H2O a fizzy texture. The feeling of bubbles popping in your mouth is a sensation that many people enjoy from more unhealthy drinks, so adding that sensation to water makes it even more enjoyable. Certain teas and juices can be good for your fluid intake as well, oftentimes even being more fulfilling than normal water. There are many more ways to spice it up and have fun with the drinks you have.

However, even with these different choices, it is still essential to drink regular water occasionally. As boring as it can be, it is completely calorie-free and is the overall best choice for hydration. Drinking it in between meals or late at night will likely go over better than any substitute!
