Unity and Epic Games Form a Unique Partnership

During a recent announcement by Unity and Epic Games, Epic’s CEO, Tim Sweeney, announced that starting in 2026, developers who use Unity to produce their video games will be able to publish their creations in Fortnite.

Tim Sweeny said the following as part of the announcement: “We recently sat down with Unity and realized we share a common vision of the need to support fair and open digital platforms… just as in the early days of the web, we believe companies must work together to build open and interoperable systems.”. He continues, “Just as in the early days of the web, we believe that companies must collaborate to build an open, interoperable, and fair metaverse. By working with Unity, we are helping developers create entertaining games, reach a wider audience, and achieve success.”.

The CEO of Unity, Matt Bromberg, has also been on record saying he was “delighted to be working with Epic Games to create more opportunities for game developers around the world”.

With Fortnite having over 500 million players, it is one of the most popular platforms and digital marketplaces on the internet when it comes to video games. Having your game promoted on Fortnite could let these new Unity games reach a much wider audience with less money spent on advertising.

At the time of writing this article, no further details have been released regarding how this partnership will function or what the product’s timeline looks like. The details are expected to be given next year.

It is too early to see how well this partnership will work until it is tested and further details are revealed about the implementation process. Hopefully, this partnership proves to be fruitful and will help smaller video game designers reach a much wider audience.
