Michael Jordan is one of the most accomplished athletes in the history of the United States. He has earned dozens of awards and has become a champion in the NBA more times than most people can keep track of. Without a doubt, Michael Jordan has earned the right to be called a living legend in the game of basketball. However, even while he is 62 years old, he is still making an impact in sports across the nation, this time in sports racing.
Recently, Michael Jordan, the co-owner of 23XI Racing alongside Denny Hamlin, helped in a legal battle with the NASCAR’s founding France family in an antitrust lawsuit. While this case was between 23Xl Racing and NASCAR, everyone really called it a legal battle between Jordan and NASCAR.
The legal battle was over NASCAR operating as an illegal monopoly and forcing racing teams into “Take it or leave it” deals where they had no room for negotiation, called “gun to the head” moments by some teams. This has forced many teams to pay massive amounts of money to participate in the sport, and the amount they had to pay was inconsistent between teams, an awful abuse of power, and should be condemned if this was done intentionally.
After winning the legal case, NASCAR will be required to provide each team with the same charter agreement terms. This means that thanks to the efforts of Michael Jordan and his team, they just gave permanent franchises to every garage at the Cup Series, an exceptional feat that has many across the world cheering for them, myself included.
With this one action, Michael Jordan has once again made his mark on history, changing the entire landscape of NASCAR teams with a single legal battle. This change is going to revolutionize the sports racing scene, and I am excited to see how it will change in the coming years.
