Caroline Giraldo Navarro, known as Karol G, is a singer and songwriter from Colombia. She is considered one of the most popular and influential reggaeton and urban pop artists today. Giraldo was born on February 14, 1991, in Medellín, Colombia, where she was raised alongside two sisters. Her father, who was a musician, often brought home instruments for her to play, and eventually, she performed on stage with him. As a teenager, she began performing as a solo act. 

She appeared on El Factor X, the Colombian spinoff of The X Factor, in 2007 at the age of 14 with the hopes of becoming a pop star who made the kind of music she liked listening to. She chose “Karol G” as her artist name after she got a contract offer from Flamingo Records in Colombia and Diamond Music in Puerto Rico. She released her first single, En La Playa, that same year. 

After struggling to find her place in the industry, Karol G finally got her big break in 2016 when she signed with Universal Music Latino. Her collaboration with Bad Bunny on Ahora Me Llama catapulted her to international fame. Karol G has released 5 albums so far: Unstoppable (2017), Ocean (2019), KG0516 (2021), Mañana Será Bonito (2023), and Tropicoqueta (2025). A documentary was released in 2025 about her journey to stardom called Karol G: Tomorrow Was Beautiful. In April 2026, she will be the first Latina artist to headline at Coachella. 

Karol G has earned many awards, namely a Grammy, 5 Billboard Music Awards, and 8 Latin Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year and Song of the Year. She was also named Woman of the Year by Billboard and has earned 11 Guinness World Records, including the highest-grossing music tour by a Latin female artist for her Mañana Será Bonito Tour and the first female artist to reach the #1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart with a Spanish-language album.
