Picture this:
A luxuriously-feeling warm bath, face masks that make our skin glow from the inside out, treatments that make us feel like a runway model–all from the comfort of our own home.
We may all want to run our pockets dry at the salons and spas each month, but the true luxury is found in teaching ourselves how to be our own personal beauty attendant. From self-care to skincare treatments, and makeovers we could only dream of, the possibilities of at-home beauty have become endless. There is not much we can’t do when we have a YouTube account and the motivation to feel our best.
Creating a spa within our own home does not need to mean buying all the cucumbers from the grocery store and emptying our local beauty supply store’s shelves. While a facial might be intriguing, some of the treatments done at the salon can be too irritating or drying for our skin types. Knowing your own skin, and what it can and cannot tolerate, ensures that we are not damaging the skin in processes that are supposed to benefit it. Attempting to figure these things out when relying on professionals is not only time-consuming, but can become extremely expensive. Luckily for us, there have been multiple brands coming out with high-quality, at-home facial products, such as face masks, peels, and devices that can grant us the same experience.
These various products can be bought from our favorite retailers, such as Ulta, Target, Amazon, and the local beauty supply store, like Sally Hansen. Much of these at-home treatments take a significantly less amount of time to complete, and can be done while we multitask with something else. Perfect for the busy girl who barely has enough time to sit down, let alone lay at the salon for hours on end! More extensive research can also be done on these products, and we are better able to understand the ingredients that are used to ensure our skin will love each and every one of them. On most products, the instructions are easy to follow and practically foolproof, but when we get a little lost, the internet is always here to save us from our practicing-DIY-esthetician selves.
At-home beauty treatments do not only include facial-esque experiences. The beauty world is being dominated by individuals discovering how to perform what is usually done at salons in their own bedrooms and bathrooms. We used to have to book appointments for our eyebrows, eyelashes, and waxes, and hope we could squeeze the time in. Now, we order a few products from Amazon or Ulta, and our confidence is enhanced with a limited wait. Eyebrow tints and products to trim, wax, or laminate our eyebrows are available from many of the same retailers we can purchase facial products from. Same with eyelash extension products, like lash clusters, glue, and serums; it has never been easier to be obsessed with beauty on a budget than it is now! And though waxing at home has always been available, the technology has advanced greatly, allowing us to wax at home without worrying that we are ripping our skin off along with the hair.
If we have all of these products available to us, what is stopping everyone from ditching the salons? It can be overwhelming for many individuals to tackle the world of beauty from their homes. Safety concerns tend to pop up, as we do not have the same level of information as the professionals do. Also, we all love the luxury of the spas and salons every once in a while, as not only is it about beauty, but also another form of self-care. For most of us, we will never fully leave the salon in the dust. However, teaching ourselves some of the basic treatments can not only save us time and money, but also make our salon trips more special than they ever have been.
