Posing as a triple threat as a singer, songwriter, and actor, the Australian talent, Troye Sivan, is our top pick of the month for underground artists!  Born June 5, 1995, to parents Laurelle and Shaun Mellet, the Australian singer was actually born in Johannesburg, South Africa, but soon moved to Australia when he was just two years old.

Before becoming the global super-star we know him as today, Sivan first took to Youtube when the site was first starting out.  Starting his channel on October 1, 2007, Sivan initially focused on singing covers of different popular songs for his small following, mainly singing acapella covers of popular songs. Uploading his very first video, a cover of “Tell Me Why” by Declan Galbraith, Sivan continued to create and post videos of his singing on YouTube for the world to see, steadily growing his platform and increasing his followers over the span of five years.

In addition to signing different popular songs to his channel, Sivan began to branch out by recording and uploading new types of videos, such as vlogs, between 2012 and 2013 to his channel. Turning the camera onto himself and his personal life, Sivan was able to speak to his small but dedicated following on Youtube where he promised to continue uploading videos and to continue following his musical career on the Youtube site for his fans.  

Following his success and growing popularity on YouTube , Sivan was soon signed with EMI Australia, a historic and popular record label, in June of 2013.  Providing him the platform to create and record music of his very own, Sivan soon released his debut EP, Extended Play, “TRXYE,” which features the song “Happy Little Pill,” which soon grew to be first hit in the musical industry.  

Sivan would continue to climb and see further success in his later songs under his EMI contract.  Releasing songs such as “Wild”, “Blue Neighborhood”, “Bloom”, and “Something to Give Each Other”, Sivan has been releasing hit after hit after hit that made him a household name both in his home country of Australia and the United States! On a winning streak that just continues to climb and climb, Sivan celebrated the 19th anniversary of his album with “Blue Neighborhood – Ten Years On,” which was released February 13, 2026.  Reaching over 6.5 billion streams globally, Sivan’s musical career just continues to rise and rise, making him one of the most notable musical talents for underground artists!
