"New" Artist of the Month for April 2021

Arlo Parks is a British singer-songwriter and poet who released her debut studio album, Collapsed in Sunbeams in 2021. The album peaked at #3 on the UK Albums chart. She began getting attention back in 2018 when she started sending demos to BBC Music Introducing, where she was discovered by Beatnik Creative who began managing the artist. Her solo debut came out in 2018 with the song “Cola, “which she said is “a reminder that betrayal is inevitable when it comes to pretty people that think flowers fix everything,” and which surpassed three million streams on Spotify in one year. She has said that some of her influences include Joni Mitchell and Sylvia Plath and her genre is described as indie pop and neo soul

The artist is originally from London and went to private school in Hammersmith. Parks is openly bisexual and spoke of her experiences most of secondary school in her Spotify profile where she said she spent most of that time “feeling like that black kid who couldn’t dance for shit, listened to too much emo music and crushing on some girl in her Spanish class.”
