Author of the Month for April 2026
Suzanne Collins is a globally renowned American author and television writer. Born in Hartford, Connecticut, after completing her Bachelor’s in 1985 and her Master’s in 1989, Collins’ writing career began in the television space. There she worked as a writer in various children’s shows, including Nickelodeon’s Clarissa Explains It All, The Mystery Files of Shelby Woo, Little Bear, Oswald, and Wow! Wow! Wubbzy!
Collins’ first book series, The Underland Chronicles, was published between 2003 and 2007. A year later, Collins would release the first book in the Hunger Games franchise, which garnered a wide range of success. The second book of the series, Catching Fire, would be released a year later. By the time of Mockingjay’s release in 2010, the first two books had been sold over 1.4 million in North America.
Once the film distribution rights were obtained by Lions Gate Entertainment, Collins would write the script for its film adaptation. The film trilogy would explode the popularity of the book genre and create the rise of the modern Young Adult Dystopia subgenre. Collins would release two prequel stories, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes in 2020, and Sunrise on the Reaping, both of which got their own film adaptations.
