Ever since I was in high school, I felt not pretty because I didn’t wear makeup, which gave me low self-esteem and confidence. I saw all these girls in my class who had makeup on and were popular. Even young girls are influenced to wear makeup because they want to be seen as pretty and are pressured to wear it. I never understood the hype, and I find that natural beauty is much more important. I’ve seen in movies and TV where the husband demands their wife to wear makeup, and it shouldn’t be.
The makeup industry depends on little girls who want to “fit in” and who beg their parents to buy it for them. They also depend on people who are older and have wrinkles, and makeup lets them hide all of that. Famous people, even supermodels, depend on it too. I don’t find it fair for them to make money off of people who have such low self-esteem or want to impress someone.
Women should not feel like they need to impress someone to be liked or even loved. A boyfriend or husband should not make their girlfriends feel bad because they didn’t have it on. Some make their wives put it on even if they are just going grocery shopping. They should support their wives, not put them down.
I feel like media makes it even worse and just encourages buying the products by having famous people do makeup commercials. I think that the media should start promoting natural beauty. Girls in their teens should not feel the need to wear it. I have never worn makeup, and when I have in the past, it just gave me unwanted attention or praise, and that just made me feel worse. The makeup industry shouldn’t feel the need to manipulate women into thinking they are ugly without it.
We all should feel good in our own skin and not let other people or industries make us feel otherwise. I hope one day natural beauty will win and be more encouraged.
