Like many elections in the upcoming midterms, Ohio is shaping up to be among the most important. Unsurprisingly, Vivek Rameswamy has stood out as one of the most talked-about Republican candidates in the state’s upcoming gubernatorial race, but for all the wrong reasons.
One would think, as a well-known Republican candidate who first entered the mainstream as one of the many Republican presidential candidates in 2024, voters would flock towards him. Most would be right, as by the end of the Republican Primary, Rameswamy won 82.5 percent of the vote. However, even with this support, several issues are ramping up that could potentially hinder his success come November.
Racism remains a relevant issue in Rameswamy’s campaign, no matter how hard he tries to downplay its impact within his own party. This is hardly helped by his being backed by the Trump administration, which has consistently implemented numerous amounts of racist policies under its second term. These policies continue to hinder many minority populations within this country, especially the Indian-American community, of which Rameswamy is also a part.
Rameswamy’s indian heritage has been an often talked-about point that’s been used against him largely within MAGA republican voters, who unfortunately see Rameswamy as unfit to adhere to many Republican values. However, it’s Raeswamy’s promotion of racist and xenophobic policies that have also caused him to be distanced by even his own community.
Regardless, with the election months away and the Republican party’s desperate attempts at playing catch-up by gerrymandering voting districts, it’s up in the air how things will turn out.
