Should Parents be Legally Responsible When Their Child Commits a Serious Crime?

If a child is under 18 and they commit a serious crime, I think that the parent is obligated to get into trouble, maybe not jail time, just maybe something like parenting classes, because if that child is getting into trouble and the parent doesn’t realize it, that is usually due to bad parenting.

I’ve seen several documentaries where someone under 18 commits murder or something like that, and sometimes it’s self defense, like an abusive parent or something like that then they should be safe. But if a child goes out and murders someone just for the heck of it, especially if they are like 15 and younger, their parents need to take full responsibility.

There is a show I watch called Evil Lives Here, some episodes are mothers or fathers talking about their child becoming a murderer. A lot of those parents don’t deserve responsibility because of special circumstances. But there are times that they show signs, and instead of telling authorities they instead just shrug it off.

When it comes to a child doing something seriously bad, a lot of the time it’s the parents fault to begin with. A lot of people who turn bad, have parents that were abusive and it’s like the child thinks that it’s okay, like “I can hurt mom because dad hurt mom.”

Now I am not justifying that to be right and that they have a right to turn to violence. Murder is never justified unless it’s self defense which wouldn’t even be called murder. I just think that parents should take responsibility for their children, who are under 18, to be accountable for their actions. A lot of the time if a child gets into a fight at school or somewhere public, they get suspended or banned from that location.

If you are a parent of a child who is old enough to know right from wrong, then it comes down to lack of parenting. I honestly think that everyone should take parenting classes before they even become a parent so they can avoid things like this.
