When it comes to guns and politics, it can be very controversial. The 2nd amendment says that you have the right to bear arms but should everyone have access to a gun? Personally, I am not a fan of guns but I also believe in the philosophy “guns don’t kill people, people kill people.” So, when should people be allowed to have guns?
With the amendment saying that we all have the right to bear arms, I think they should make it a bit more specific and stricter, by giving mental and psychological evaluation to individuals who want to buy guns. I also think that you should be of a certain age. For example, I find 18 to be too young, and think that the age should be at least 25 when our brains are fully developed.
Although I do know that people would find a way around these laws, like buying guns illegally or children stealing from their parents. I don’t however I think that if a minor got ahold of a gun and did something fatal that the parents should be charged as well as the minor. Sadly, there is no way to prevent people from getting guns illegally but the ones who do it legally should take a psychological test to make sure they can handle having a weapon that could kill.
I don’t believe in guns unless they’re used for hunting and maybe if you walk home alone at night after work but there are other ways to protect yourself other than guns such as pepper spray. Even with hunting it should be authorized to avoid extinction or illegal animal killing.
There are so many people who blame guns for killing people but that is the wrong argument. A gun or any weapon requires someone to be using it. A kid shooting a school or a gang doing drive-by or even someone killing an animal because a child fell into an animal enclosure. To protect the children and animals we need more restrictions and seriously consider editing the 2nd amendment to protect families.
