Have you ever worked a 9-to-5 job, and once that beautiful payday finally comes, you are wondering why you are still barely making enough to live off of? Well, unfortunately, even if minimum wage goes up, so does the cost of living. Back in the 20s, rent might have been only 60$ or even as little as 20$ per month, but they also got paid about 5 cents an hour.
We are in an era of inflation, and we are all suffering from it. Gas prices are through the roof, and if we can’t pay for gas, we can’t go to work, especially those like me who do Spark, a Walmart delivery service, during the early morning and late evening.
Today, rent can be around $500 in a small city or town, but when it comes to places like New York or Chicago, it’s more like $1,500 a month. That’s not even including utilities. If we can’t get past this inflation, we won’t be able to afford simple things like toilet paper or food. It’s almost easier to be broke than have a really good job, especially in this economy right now.
But then there is a lack of jobs as well, so not everyone can find work, especially when most jobs want you to have experience even for entry-level positions, which makes no sense because you have to gain experience to have experience, and you can’t gain it if they don’t hire you. A vicious circle, and even with a degree, it’s hard to find a job, and sadly, even overqualified people get put on the lowest level of the job, where you can’t prove your worth.
Until the war and inflation end, we are going to have more people who are jobless and possibly more homeless people because nobody can pay their bills with what they earn. Some people have health issues who can’t work, and that makes it even harder. I hope the war ends soon and we can all start living comfortably.
