Great Dame of Fashion Editors Dead At 94

Former executive editor for the long-standing fashion journal, Women’s Wear Daily, Etta Froio has recently passed away at the age of 94. Despite facing a lengthy battle against Alzheimer’s disease, the late Froio has sadly died in the early morning, Thursday, June 11, 2026. However, despite leaving many people saddened and shocked in the wake of her recent passing, Froio’s gift and contribution to the fashion industry will forever be remembered in the legacy she has left.

Froio has dedicated her life and career towards championing and advocating for the young, emerging talents within the industry of fashion. Across her impressive career, spanning five decades, Froio has advocated for what we know as modern fashion journalism and additionally paved the way for other female voices and leadership. In the work, time, and effort she placed in Women’s Wear Daily, she served as a prime example that women and girls alike are capable of anything they set their minds to.

As a young woman who wants to break into the writing and journalism industry, I can recognize the work and contribution Froio has made for other women and girls. Specifically, fashion, a career and focus that is often undervalued, Froio helped rewrite this misconception and demonstrate the true value and worth that lies within the fashion industry and fashion journalism.

While her sudden death may have left many saddened and surprised, she left the world with a great message that is ever relevant to this day.
