1 – Unwind by Neal Shusterman

Published on Nov 6th, 2007, Unwind is about the Second Civil War, which was fought over reproductive rights. Between the ages of thirteen and eighteen, parents can have their child “unwound,” which means they take all their organs and transport them to donors who need them. The story follows three children, Connor, Risa, and Lev, who, together, may have a chance to escape and to survive. 

2 – The Last Bookstore on Earth by Lily Braun-Arnold

Published on Jan 7th 2025, The Last Bookstore on Earth is a story of a young woman, Liz, who has been held up in a bookstore after a storm wreaked havoc on civilization. She feels safe there until she hears that another storm is coming. She meets a woman named Maeve whom she is reluctant to let stay, but as the girls grow closer, secrets are revealed. 

3 – The Family Experiment by John Marrs

Published on May 9th 2024, this book is about a world where the population is soaring and is creating an economic crisis. The people can no longer afford to have children, but there are few desperate to experience parenting, so they join a chance to star in a reality show called the Substitute, where they have to raise a virtual child from birth to 18 years old but condensed to only 9 months. And the prize? A chance to keep their virtual child or a chance to raise a real baby. 

4 – Baby X by Kira Peikoff

Published on March 5th 2024, Baby X is about a world where any biological matter can create life, and the stolen DNA can be sold to the highest bidder, with celebrities meeting children they never conceived. Then the famous singer Trace Throne hires bio-security expert Ember Ryan to ensure his safety. Ember will do whatever she can to protect him and knows all the tricks of the vault, but then a pregnant woman, Quinn, claims that Throne is the father of her baby; everything goes badly.

5 – The Last Murder at the End of the World by Stuart Turton

Published on March 28th 2024, The Last Murder at the End of the World is about a world that was destroyed by fog, and only one island is left untouched. The islanders are content with the curfew, with fishing, farming, and being told what to do by the three scientists who live on the island. That is, until one of the scientists is found dead, and the security system is lowered, leaving them all in danger of the fog. They have only 107 hours to solve the murder, but with their memories wiped from before the murder, anyone could be the murderer, and they wouldn’t even know it.
