Here are my top 5 picks for video games in October 2026. I chose games that either come out in October or have been released within the past two months, I wanted a variety of genres and scales like triple A and indie games. I avoided live service games believe I believe every month has at least a couple good standalone games. My top two games were new entries in series with established fanbases that have garnered a lot of hype, but I personally prefer Fire Emblem so that’s why it’s number one, my other three were in order of personal preference.
- Fire Emblem Fortunes Weave
New Fully Fledged Fire Emblem Game: Fans have been looking forward to a more story-rich game since Fire Emblem: Three Houses in 2019. This strategy RPG is taking it to the next level with five different playable characters, each with their own route. I really like Fire Emblem Three Houses; I’m excited to see what this new entry in the series has in store for a story. Playable Exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2
- Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse
First mainline 2D Castlevania in 18 years. This new Castlevania game focuses on smooth movement and exciting combat. Stellar gothic horror visuals presented in semi-3D, tons of exploration with calculated level design. Lots of games post 2017 focus on open world exploration in exchange for calculated level design, so it’s nice to see a return to form now and again. Playable on the Nintendo Switch, Playstation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S
- Fields of Mistria
The best new comfy, cozy Harvest Moon/Stardew Valley-like game to come out in recent months. Meet many interesting characters in this 90s anime-style farming sim with loads of personality. It fully released out of early access in August, and I’ve sunk 120 hours into it ever since then, and it’s been fun! My favorite character is Juniper the bathhouse owner. Playable Exclusively on PC
- Marvel’s Wolverine (2026)
A new Marvel superhero game that many people have been anticipating for years now. Everyone loves open-world combat-focused action games. Wolverine is super popular; I really liked Deadpool and Wolverine as a movie. Insomniac Games, the people behind the beloved Spider-Man games on PlayStation consoles, are behind this Wolverine game, so there’s an established audience for Insomniac Games, plus there’s a massive audience for Marvel games. Playable Exclusively on PlayStation 5
- Jackbox Party Pack 12
New entry in beloved party game series Jackbox Party Pack. Every Jackbox game revolves around trying to make your friends laugh at a gathering online or in person; this one’s no different. I own every Jackbox game on Steam; there are always two good games, and the rest become games we play once and never again. My guesses for the two good games this time are “We forgot a card” and “Megapals.” Playable on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Microsoft Windows, macOS, Linux, Apple TV, iPad, Amazon Fire TV, Nvidia Shield TV, and Xfinity X1
