Should Platforms Moderate Political Content More?

When you go onto social media, there is a very good chance you are going to see someone posting their political views on something, whether it be about abortion or LGBT. It is bound to start an argument, and that is what platforms like Facebook and Twitter need to moderate.

I’ve seen posts from celebrities supporting their child for coming out as trans or gay, and people can either say that they are happy for them and that supporting their child is a good thing, but you will always get those people who will say that it’s abuse to support them for coming out or that trans doesn’t make them the other gender.

I can understand stating your opinion, but it needs to be kept civil. Nobody wants to see harsh comments or backlash, and sometimes it can even come off as threatening. I think that politics in general should just be kept off social media because no matter how civil you are, there will be those who disagree.

I remember a family member posting about how trans women should not be able to use the women’s bathroom and that she didn’t want a man in the bathroom with her young niece. I also saw one about a trans man saving a baby from drowning, but the comments were focused on saying he was a woman rather than calling him a hero.

I even saw one about a trans man who was pregnant, and instead of being happy for him, supporting him and congratulating him, everyone bashed him and his partner, saying that men can’t have children and that a woman was pregnant and not a man.

I know that people will disagree with people’s opinions, and that is just how life is, but insulting people and not seeing the bigger picture is disrespectful. I try to stay completely out of politics because I don’t want to start an argument, and I’ve gotten backlash for sharing my thoughts.

Social media like Facebook and Twitter can be better if they keep political content off their platforms. The world would be a more peaceful place, at least on the internet.
