American conservative figures have had their spotlight boosted by the Trump administration since 2016. Their influence is impossible to notice domestically, but even on a global scale, American conservative politicians have had massive reach.
They’ve been tied to many successful conservative movements across the globe, from the United Kingdom, Argentina, and Hungary. That said, in recent years, the fire within these movements began to die out.
The defeat of Hungary’s former prime minister Viktor Orban seemed to many to be the writing on the wall for the future of the conservative movements backed by Trump and his allies. That isn’t to say that fervent support for these movements has completely died off; the recent race riots in Northern Ireland have proved that. Instead, in places like Hungary, the citizens have lived long enough under a leader like Orban to discover for themselves that his ideology wasn’t working for them.
Additionally, Viktor Orban’s defeat proved to many disillusioned people that fighting these conservative movements with voting actually works. This comes at the same time as Democratic socialism and other socialist ideas are getting a massive spotlight, both helped by social media and the rising interest within younger generations in more progressive ideas and rising distaste for Israel.
Politicians like Zohran Mamdani have created a platform that can show both the successes and failures of Democratic Socialism in action. That said, so far there have been mostly successes in only seven months since he first took office.
