Why Voting Should Be Mandatory

Every election helps decide the future of our schools, communities, and country. The choices people make at the voting booth can affect laws, education, healthcare, and many other parts of everyday life. That is why I believe voting should be mandatory, because every eligible citizen should help shape the future by making their voice heard.

Even though I am not old enough to vote yet, I still pay attention to what is happening around me. I hear adults talk about important issues, and I see how decisions made by elected leaders affect my school, my family, and the place where I live. These decisions hold a impact on America as we get to decide which leaders will make what changes for us.

I believe making voting mandatory would encourage people to learn more about the candidates and the issues before Election Day. This can help people get an idea of what leaders have for our country. Too many people skip voting even though they have the opportunity, while others like me are not legally allowed to participate yet.

Some people argue that voting should always be a personal choice, but I think it is also a responsibility. Just like citizens are expected to follow laws and serve on juries when called, voting helps everyone share the responsibility of deciding the country’s future. And people who don’t vote sometimes miss out on the opportunity to choose leaders they truly align with. Citizens also may claim to be busy, but voting takes less time than washing your dishes, as voting polls are everywhere, throughout schools, grocery shops, and many other places.

Although I have to wait until I am old enough to vote, I already know I want to take that responsibility seriously. Until then, I can stay informed, discuss issues with others, and encourage eligible adults to vote because every vote has the power to make a difference. If we make voting mandatory, this helps the USA as a whole to put the right leader in charge,
