Dark Shadows Return

Dark Shadows made its release just a few days ago on May 11th. The film paid homage to the 1970s TV series of the same name. Director Tim Burton offered his own twist, keeping Johnny Depp’s character, Barnabas Collins in the 1970s returning years later to present-day on a mission to protect his descendants. Other stars include Michelle Pfiefer playing Elizabeth Collins Stoddard and Helena Bonham Carter as Dr. Julia Hoffman. Raking in only $28 million in the last three days, ratings aren’t as high as some may have anticipated. However, one must keep in mind that the film is being run alongside hard-to-compete-with Avengers, which has assaulted other movies, totaling over $100,000 in its first two weeks! Dark Shadows might be one of those wait-for-the-DVD kinds of movies, which might be better for the ones who remember the original series who tend to stay away from crowded-with-kids movie theaters. I think I’ll wait for the DVD too…
