Eminem surprises fans with teaser for New Music

Eminem gave fans a surprise on Monday, teasing his upcoming album in a page of the Detroit Free Press.

According to Billboard, the famed rapper released a fake obituary of his Slim Shady persona to lead up to the release of his 12th studio album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce). According to People, this album will be Eminem’s latest full release since 2020.

The obituary featured an image of Eminem wearing a white Jason Voorhees hockey mask, giving an overview of Slim Shady’s rise to fame and his troubled personality with the headline “Slim Shady Made Lasting Impressions” and the subhead “Fans ‘Will Never Forget’ Controversial Rapper.”

“Ultimately, the very things that seemed to be the tools he used became calling cards that defined an existence that could only come to a sudden and horrific end,” the obituary read. “His complex and tortured existence has come to a close, and the legacy he leaves behind is no closer to resolution than the manner in which this character departed this world.”

Eminem’s album was teased by Dr. Dre in March on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

“He said it was OK for me to make an announcement right here on the show,” said Dre. “I’m actually going to get the entire album for the first time tomorrow … I haven’t even heard anything complete that I’ve done, but I’m going to hear it, and he’s putting out an album in 2024.”

Eminem later made the official announcement in late April on Instagram, before an appearance at the 2024 NFL Draft. Besides the title, the songs within the album remain a mystery. However, fans across the Internet believe that his recent fake obituary may be teasing the contents of his next album.

Fans on Reddit and Twitter/X speculated that the emphasized subhead phrase “Will Never Forget” may be the title of one of Eminem’s upcoming singles. However, it all remains speculation.

The release date for Death of Slim Shady is still unknown, but most expect the album to be released sometime this summer.
