Funeral Shooting Leave One Dead in Queens

A family attended a funeral service held at The Greater Allen A.M.E. Cathedral of New York on April 10, 2026 in honor of their deceased loved one. Unfortunately, the grieving family was met with even more tragedy after a shooting took place just right outside of the church where the memorial service was held. A 49-year-old victim identified as Richard Carter was shot and killed just a few feet away from the funeral home.

Occurring around 2 P.M., according to CBS News, Limousine Driver Eric Fairchild heard gunshots firing from close by while sitting in the vehicle that was used to take the family to the funeral. Fairchild reported that he had heard about five or six gunshots and looked over to find Carter on the ground. He claimed that Carter was “rocking side to side” while he was on the ground, and that it was very evident that he had been struck by gunfire.

Carter was eventually taken to Jamaica Hospital where he succumbed to his gunshot wounds.

Other individuals who attended the funeral stated that Carter was a friend of the deceased member in which the family attended the funeral for. The two were reported to be “homeboys” and Fairchild also stated that the victim was a close friend of his.

The suspect was reported to have departed the scene on a Citi bike while wearing a very colorful jacket courtesy of CBS News. The individuals in attendance at the funeral were unable to get a closer look at the murderer, but they are hoping to get more information on the incident.

The individuals believe that Carter was targeted in the shooting, and while it is uncertain whether he had any affiliation with the suspect or not, it is quite clear that the suspect had his eyes set on killing him. There is an ongoing investigation to determine who the suspect involved was and what led up to the killing of 49-year-old Richard Carter.

As the NYPD continues to look into the case, a family suffering from consecutive heartbreaks is looking to remain strong and resilient during such a tough time. The family hopes that the suspect is brought to justice as they remember and grieve the life of yet another lost loved one.
