Just last week on July 19 2024, the new movie “Twisters” came out, and has completely taken over movie news.
“Twisters” stars Glen Powell as Tyler Owens, a storm-chasing social media star. Daisy Edgar-Jones stars as Kate Cooper, a woman traumatized from a prior tornado who is pulled back into storm chasing by her friend Javi, played by Anthony Ramos.
This movie follows Kate Copper, a meteorologist and former storm chaser drawn back into storm chasing. With the use of new storm chasing technology, Kate follows her friend Javi, meeting fellow storm chaser Tyler Owens on the way. The movie follows Tyler and Kate as they and their teams chase a large tornado over Oklahoma.
This past weekend was the opening weekend for “Twisters”, bringing in a whopping $80.5 million. The movie was suspected of earning $50 to $55 million opening weekend, incredibly surpassing that. “Twisters” became the third largest movie of the year, following “Inside Out 2” and “Dune: Part 2”.
A lot of the raging success is thought to be owed to the two main actors, Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones. Glen Powell has been popular in the media over the last few years due to a suspected relationship with Sydney Sweeney last year. The two starred in the rom-com “Anything But You”, causing a flurry of romance rumors to spark due to the off-screen interactions the two had. Edgar-Jones recently starred in “Where The Crawdads Sing” and the popular TV show, “Normal People”.
“Twisters” is a standalone sequel to the 1996 movie “Twister”. Through the new movie, several moments honor the original cast, and the original movie.
There are not a ton of movies in this genre of natural disaster action, which is another factor that brought it to do so well. With all the natural disasters and crazy unpredictable weather in the last few years, “Twisters” has brought a cinematic look into this world.
