Canadian-music artist Mac Demarco is known for his unique style and his home-produced music. Born in British Columbia, the singer-songwriter and producer, has garnered a major presence within the indie music scene since his debut studio album in 2012 titled 2.

Previously, Demarco has signed on with Captured Tracks record label that same year, following a move to Vancouver to start his solo music career after is first self made album debut in the 2009 indie-rock project Makeout Videotape. Following the success of 2, Demarco released his second album Salad Days in April 2024, which became a shortlisted nominee for the 2014 Polaris Music Prize.

DeMarco’s music made a recent resurgence in popularity after one of his songs from his 2019 album Here Comes the Cowboy recently went viral on TikTok. For many DeMarco fans, the song Heart to Heart encapsulated every aspect of DeMarco’s style. Dubbed as “jizz jazz” by DeMarco himself, the Canadian artists style uses dreamy and echoey melodies and simple muted drumbeats that de-stresses the listener, similar to increasingly popular Lo-Fi music genre.

Outside of his music, many fans admire DeMarco for his laid-back personality and relatable apathy towards cynicism the newer generations have towards the existing governmental systems in society.
