Miley Cyrus’s Single ‘Flowers’ Becomes Most-Streamed Song on Spotify for Two Week

Earlier this week (Jan. 26), Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers” surpassed the top streamed song in Spotify history for a second time.

As Spotify announced on Twitter, “It’s official…@MileyCyrus broke the record for the most streams in a single week with #Flowers.”.

It was the first week in January that Spotify shared specific numbers for the hit single. Cyrus managed to outdo herself for a second consecutive week after also debuting at No. 1 in the previous frame, making it all the more impressive that she managed to outdo herself for the second consecutive week.

Moreover, the success of “Flowers” has also helped Cyrus’ entire discography gain a truly remarkable 65 percent in the week ending Jan. 19, from “Wrecking Ball” to “Midnight Sky.” According to Luminate — from 20.7 million U.S. on-demand streams per week to 34.2 million. Furthermore, “Flowers” slyly plays on Bruno Mars’ No. 1 torch song “If I Was Your Man” without sampling or interpolating any of its melodies.

As soon as Flowers reached No. 1, Cyrus tweeted, “Thankful that Flowers is Number 1 around the world. This song is dedicated to my fans & the steadfast self-love I wish for each of you. Forever grateful, Miley.”

Op-Ed: Has Modern Hip-Hop Really Become More Destructive? Probably not.

With a current millennial rapper facing down RICO chargers for the content of his lyrics (Young Thug), it seems reasonable that early rap fans would point to their being some credence in indicting lyrical content as being dangerous, offensive, brazen, and influential. And, to be fair, Young Thug’s lyrics are mild compared to some of the content coming from the Chicago and Jacksonville drill scenes, which tend to make fun of dead gang rivals openly, or some of the raw Soundcloud-based music, which tends to be incredibly overt in it’s handling of sexual themes a la Robb Bank$ or the deceased Xxxtentacion.

While the song has risen in popularity in various countries, the Vanguard states, “This is a new height as this is the first ever Nigerian song to chart at Top 10 in Billboard Hot 100’s history.” The song has even reached a whopping 400M views on Youtube and other platforms.

Behind The Scenes, Taylor Swift’s New Tour “Eras”

Taylor Swift packed her bags and started loading the van as she started her tour in Glendale, Arizona last Friday, March 17th for her new album ‘Eras’. Covid took a hit to our beloved Taylor on her last albums, ‘Lover’, ‘Folklore’, and ‘Evermore’; due to the pandemic, she did not go on tour for these albums. So we are all overjoyed about Taylor going on tour for ‘Eras’. Five years felt like a lifetime.

BLACKPINK Become the Most Streamed Female Band on Spotify

BLACKPINK has done it again, but this is not the group’s first time in the spotlight. According to the Guinness World Records, the popular K-pop girl group has reached the new high-water mark with 8.8 billion individual streams on Spotify, beating out previous titleholders Little Mix, a British-based group. Their most popular hits contributed to the record included “How You Like That” (2020) with 746 million streams, “Kill This Love” (2019) with 672 million and “Ddu-du Ddu-du” (2018) with 575 million.
