Ohio TV Reporter Shot

A reporter for WOIO 19 News in Ohio, Winnie Dortch was shot on Monday during an altercation right outside of Cleveland. Local police say that the situation arose at around 8 a.m. Monday morning when two people were quarreling. Before authorities could arrive on the scene shots were fired.

Dortch was said to have a “serious” wound and was taken to the hospital. Meanwhile, 34-year-old Bryant Carter was found dead on the scene. The two knew each other as they were both members of the Clifton Early Learning Center community at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church.

“It’s a tragedy, this is so close to home. This is a tragic event. Any loss of life is a tragic event, especially in a place that’s holy ground”, said Father Kevin Elbert from the Church.

WOIO’s Brian Sinclair, said on Monday, “This morning, our friend and colleague Winnie Dortch was the victim of a brutal domestic violence attack, She was immediately rushed to MetroHealth Medical Center and underwent surgery for her injuries…Our prayers are with her, her young daughter, and the many other victims of domestic violence in our community.”

They later said Dortch’s surgery went well and more updates would be released when available.
