Should Schools Teach Current Political Issues or Stick to History?

When I was in school, they taught mostly history, and I get why we need to know who George Washington is, Hitler, and all that, but sadly, history has a way of repeating itself: presidents make mistakes, wars happen, and then it repeats over and over. But we can’t say that students of today know anything about what is going on in the world. They know what happened in the 1800s and what wars happened and other events, but they are lacking in current events.

Schools need to create a separate class to teach about events happening today, what the current president is doing, and how they are affecting us. Do students today know about inflation? Or even the current war? Some might because of their parents, but it’s definitely not because of the school.

History is good to know about, but it’s the past; there are really no jobs out there that pay you to know what year and day something happens, except maybe a teacher. Politicians, however, are always needed to run for mayor or governor or anything else. You have to know the current issues that are happening for those jobs.

I never was good at history, and politics never really interested me until now, when all the current issues affect me for things like food prices, the war, everything getting more expensive, and gas prices going up, and that most countries don’t like America anymore. Right now, the issues are affecting everyone badly, and it’s important to know what is going on so when a student goes out into the world, they know what to expect.

Gas really affects me personally because I need it to do my job, and the prices of food and everything else that is going up, like medicine, healthcare, and everything we need to survive, are higher than when I was in high school. Back then, most students just needed to worry about school lunches and grades, but now they have even more to learn about. I think that the more they know, the more helpful it can be, even if it’s scary.
