The voting age right now is 18, and that makes sense because you are legally seen as an adult and can make adult decisions. But there are people out there who think the voting age should be lowered to 17 or 16. I don’t think that is a good idea because they are not legally able to drink or even smoke, yet, or even get married. I wouldn’t want kids who are not 18 yet to have control over who controls our country.
The exception to this is that they are emancipated and can make adult decisions, but other than that, I would be against lowering it. However, I would be for raising it. Just as I see that the drinking age should be raised to 25, I also think you should be 25 to vote. 25 is the perfect age because your brain is fully developed. I also think that most kids 18 and under get influenced by their parents on which side to vote for.
By age 25, you have moved out, can make your own decisions, and are not being told who to vote for. I have been influenced by people when I was younger on who to vote for. I now choose not to vote because I do not have a side I support more than the other. I think in general people should be educated on both sides, so if they do decide to vote, they can make a rational decision.
Lowering the voting age would cause so much conflict and would mess with the algorithm of the votes because there would be a lot more people voting if it were to be lowered to 17 or 16(or even younger). At that age, I was just trying to survive high school. There were clubs like the young republicans, but I felt at that age, you are not knowledgeable enough to pick a side.
I think that if anything, it should stay either at 18 or be raised because we don’t want children to be influencing who will be running our country. Every vote counts!
