Athlete of the Month for July 2021
Simone Biles is a 24-year-old American artistic gymnast. She competed at the Olympics in 2016 as a part of Team USA. She will also be a part of the elite team going to Tokyo for the Olympics next month. Biles is a 4-time Olympic gold medalist and 1-time bronze medalist. She is also a 19-time gold medal winner at the World Artistic Gymnastic Championships.
Biles was a part of the “Final Five” in 2016, which won a team gold medal at the Games in Rio in 2016. At those Olympics, Biles also won individual golds for All-Around, Vault, and Floor Exercise. She took home the bronze for Balance Beam.
Biles has won more World gold medals than any other gymnast in history. In May 2021, Biles completed a Yurchenko double pike vault, something no woman had ever landed before. She first started doing gymnastics when she was six years old, and her relentless training ever since then has paid off, as she has become one of the most decorated female athletes of all time.
When she was a kid, Biles was placed in foster care with her three other siblings after her birth mother was unable to take care of them. Her grandparents officially adopted Biles and her younger sister in 2003.
