Taylor Swift announces new album at the 2024 Grammys Awards ceremony

With the continued success of the Eras tour, Taylor Swift gave fans another big surprise with the announcement of her next album. A new Taylor Swift album is set to be released this year. The international star made the surprise announcement in her Best Pop Vocal Album award acceptance speech during the 66th Grammy Awards Ceremony. This award marks her 13th Grammy, which ironically for Swift, is her lucky number.

“I would love to tell you that this is the best moment of my life, but I feel this happy when I finish a song, or when I crack to code to a bridge I love, or when I’m shortlisting a music video, or when I’m rehearsing with my dancers or my band, or getting ready to go to Tokyo to play a show. For me the award is the work. All I want to do is keep being able to do this. I love it so much, it makes me so happy,” said Swift.

“I want to say thank you to the fans by telling you a secret that I have been keeping from you for the last two years, which is that my brand-new album comes out April 19th,” Swift continued. “It’s called ‘The Tortured Poets Department.’ I’m going to go and post the cover right now backstage. Thank you, I love you!”

Before the announcement, Swift had changed her social media profile pictures to a black and white image. Additionally, her official website went down leaving a coded message that deciphered into “Red Herring.”

Fans had speculated that the activities on Swift’s account could be alluding to her Reputation album, which used black and white imagery. Following the announcement, Swift’s social media pages and website were updated with information on her newest album and revealed its cover art, which is a monochrome photo of the singer on a bed, wearing a tank top and shorts.

According to the announcement, Swift’s upcoming album, The Tortured Poets Department, will feature 16 songs and a bonus track called “The Manuscript.” Fans will be able to buy a plethora of different versions of the album, including a CD, cassette, vinyl, and digital album. A special collector’s edition deluxe CD will also be available.

The Tortured Poets Department’s current release date is set for April 19, 2024. Pre-orders are already available on Swift’s official website.
