Top 3 Baseball Movies of All Time (Op-Ed)

It’s officially the dog days of summer, meaning the only thing on TV is baseball. Sometimes these games get boring, and we want something with a little more story. Going through the classics, I narrowed it down to the top three greatest baseball movies.

3. “A League of Their Own”
When I think about “A League of Their Own” the first thing that comes to mind is the star-studded cast. Madonna, Geena Davis, and Tom Hanks delivered phenomenal performances, and gave us some unforgettable lines like, “There’s no crying in baseball”. This movie is empowering and shows that women can succeed in sports too. The portrayal of this All-American Girls Professional Baseball League coming to be during the war is perfect.

2. “Moneyball”
This is personally one of my favorite movies of all time. One of the reasons for this is because this was one of the first times we could see what it is like running a professional sports team. Being a huge sports fan and seeing the ins and outs of an MLB general manager and what that entails is truly awesome. Jonah Hill is hilarious in this movie, and Brad Pitt steals the show. He does a great job as Billy Beane, displaying how different he was from everyone else in the clubhouse.

1. “The Sandlot”
Making a better baseball movie than “Sandlot” isn’t possible: it perfectly encapsulates what it’s like to play sports with your friends when you were a kid. Knock on doors then head to the park from sunup to sundown. The movie is full of humor, nostalgia, and some iconic scenes. My favorite is the Wendy Peffercorn and Squints pool scene. Overall, the themes of friends, family, and teamwork resonate with me the most, making it number one on my list.
