Trade Rumors Surface with Free Agency Approaching

As the free agency start date approaches, trade rumors have surfaced across the league. Teams that feel they might lose key players in free agency will attempt to trade them prior to the deadline to get something of value in return. We see superstars leave teams in free agency every off season, but more often than not, blockbuster trades are made.

Rumors have surfaced that the Oklahoma City Thunder are in trade talks with the Phoenix Suns regarding point guard Chris Paul. While the All-Star guard is 35 years old, he would be a good fit for the Suns. He was able to lead a subpar Thunder team to the playoffs last year, proving that he can still play at a high level.

Talks between the teams are ongoing and are continuing to gain traction, but there isn’t a guarantee that a deal will take place. Throughout the past several years, the Thunder organization has handled trading star players very well. They worked with Paul George after he decided he wanted out, as well as with their franchise superstar, MVP Russell Westbrook. It’s not out of the question to think that a deal could be made here.

The Phoenix Suns haven’t been to the playoffs in eight consecutive seasons but are determined to change that in the 2020-21 season. In the Disney X NBA bubble that hosted teams for several months to complete the 2019-20 NBA season, the Suns went undefeated, winning eight straight games. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to earn them a playoff spot, as they barely missed the play-in tournament.

But with rising stars Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton, the Suns’ roster is promising. With the addition of a floor general like Chris Paul, they could seriously compete in the west.

Currently there is a moratorium on trades in the league until next week’s NBA draft, meaning that we must wait until then to see any deal get completed.
