NBA Regular Season Start Date and Free Agency Start Date Confirmed

An agreement between the players’ union and the league has been reached regarding the regular season start date of the 2020-21 season. Free agency is set to start on November 20th at 6 p.m., two days after the NBA draft.

The regular season will then begin on December 22nd, with a schedule consisting of 72 games rather than the usual 82. That means that this next month and a half is going to be an eventful 45 days. The salary cap has been set at $109.1 million and the luxury tax at $132.6 million.

With several super stars becoming unrestricted free agents this fall, who should we expect to go where?

Some of the biggest names in free agency include Anthony Davis (Player option), Brandon Ingram (Restricted free agent), DeMar DeRozan (Player option), Fred VanVleet (Unrestricted free agent), Montrezl Harrell (Unrestricted free agent), Gordon Hayward (Player option), Bogdan Bogdanovic (Restricted free agent), Goran Dragic (Unrestricted free agent), Davis Bertans (Unrestricted free agent), and Danilo Gallinari (Unrestricted free agent).

While those are, arguably, the best available players, there are still many more that will become free agents on November 20th. Since Kevin Durant left the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2016, NBA free agency has never been the same. It has become more and more acceptable to leave a team in free agency in the hopes of finding a better fit to win a championship. We are in the “Superteam Era.”

Thus, a star changing teams wouldn’t be all that surprising. The landscape of the NBA seems to change every off season, with players forming super teams all over the country in the hopes of taking down either LeBron or, previously, the Golden State dynasty.

Sit tight this holiday season and get ready for some serious news to come out of NBA free agency.
