Trump to dismantle election security networks

After eight years of building election security networks, the Trump administration and the DOGE are dismantling those systems. A network that hundreds of cybersecurity and law enforcement officials have built to protect it from future threats.

After laying off 130 staffers since February, DOGE continues to lay off staffers from the CISA. The Trump administration is in the process of stripping civil service protections from 80% of the workforce. A decision that could potentially not solve the threats that have been targeted at election workers and polling places.

Furthermore, Trump officials have argued that the cuts to election security agencies were hurting the president’s allies. Citing General Timothy Haugh’s countering of Russian interference in past elections as a source. A Trump representative claimed that certain agencies were ended to risk further weaponization and discretion.

Many state officials are not in favor of these developments. A bipartisan association has confronted the Trump administration about the risk of no protection for election security. Unfortunately, the White House has given no response to the concerns.

President Trump believes in exerting more control over America’s state and local election systems. He views this as a solution to end illegal voting by noncitizens and voter fraud, which is ironic considering he has a habit of making “alternative facts” himself. Officials are viewing this as hypocritical, as they feel Trump’s decisions will make voting in America less safe and secure.

The Trump administration’s disregard for these election security networks is outright concerning and should be met with more caution for future events.
