American Healthcare has been a longstanding issue within the country and across the world. Despite having the capability to provide quality treatment to its patients, a multitude of roadblocks and blatant corruption have led to an unfortunate culture where many Americans are risking going bankrupt for medical treatment.
It’s unsurprising that universal healthcare has been a hotly debated topic within the United States, especially in recent years. Frustrations surrounding the American healthcare industry are at their highest and aren’t lessening in the slightest. Unsurprisingly, more and more people, largely within the younger generations, are looking to progressive politicians who will dedicate their time to building momentum for better medical care.
Politicians within blue states like New York are some of the few who are drafting and proposing laws to grant their citizens healthcare. It’s a strategy that seems, for many people, to have a high chance of working, considering the rising wave of successful elections of progressive democratic and even socialist politicians within the last year.
Zohran Mamdani has been a shining example for many, and despite only being in office as New York City mayor, his already existing successes towards a universal childcare program have reignited hope. However, if New York State were to successfully implement universal healthcare for all of its citizens, it would be a large enough litmus test for the country to see. If proven successful, the domino of other blue states following suit would be hard to ignore.
That said, with how fierce the pushback from right-leaning politicians and supporters has been to these issues, the fight for universal healthcare in the United States won’t be easy.
