New York State Lawmakers Seek to Add More Mobile Sports Betting Regulations

It is expected that in this upcoming season, New York state lawmakers will want to take further actions to regulate the mobile sports betting scene. This desire for more regulations comes at the same time as the overall push by legislators to legalize other types of online gambling in the state.

A contributing reason why legislators are looking to legalize mobile sports betting and other betting in I-gaming is that if it is legal, they can place restrictions and regulations on how it is conducted. The government can then monitor the market and ensure that young Americans have guardrails to prevent them from becoming addicted to gambling and ruining their futures.

Carrie Woerner, said in a statement, “We have an online gambling space now and we need to take a look at how we mitigate risk for people,” she continues, “Looking at how we assess the risk of these online games and how we can work with regulators and operators to ensure there is safety as much as possible in a game that is based on chance and risk.”

Carrie Woerner, an assemblymember, has made several statements regarding the regulation plans and gambling taking place in New York. She has issued warnings about how promotional material is targeted at certain demographics to encourage them to begin or continue gambling.

She said in a statement, “They all talked about the promotions, and how much those are targeted at specific age groups, the younger age groups, to bring them in,” she continues, “We need to minimize the amount of promotional play that somebody gets to keep them betting.”.

Personally, I find that the thrill of gambling can be intoxicating, but I never use real money for gambling. The chance is thrilling, but I refuse to use real currency, especially in our day, where every cent counts.
