As we come close to the end of 2025, many awards ceremonies have been planned or have taken place to recognize the greatest products to be released this year. Of the most prominent award ceremonies for video games, there are the Golden Joystick Awards and The Game Awards.
At the Golden Joystick Awards, which have already taken place, Clair Obscur Expedition 33 was able to win a total of 7 awards, equaling the number earned by another game, which was expected to be Game of the Year, Baldur’s Gate 3. Expedition 33 earned awards for the Best Lead Performer, Soundtrack, Supporting Performer, Visual Design, and Storytelling. They also earned the award for Studio of the Year and Ultimate Game of the Year.
During this award ceremony, nothing came close to them, with the runners-up only earning two awards at the event. If this trend continues to be at The Game Awards, Expedition 33 is set to become 2025’s Game of the Year.
It was revealed when the voting site opened that Expedition 33 has been nominated for 11 awards at The Game Awards, making it the most-nominated game in the history of the event. The previous tied record held by Baldur’s Gate 3 and Alan Wake 2 at the 2023 Game Awards only had 8 nominations.
Clair Obscur Expedition 33 has proven itself to be one of the best video games ever created, with a story and soundtrack that have moved the hearts of millions. The soundtrack, especially, has been captivating audiences, even outside of the video game scene, topping charts for classical music, making their absence from the Grammys an injustice.
I believe that Expedition 33 is the single best video game I have ever had the pleasure of playing, and I sincerely hope that it earns the recognition it and the team who created it deserve at the Game Awards.
