 Celebrate AAPI Month 2026: Fun Events Across NYC

Take part in the festive celebrations for this month, which is Asian American and Pacific Island Heritage Month! Events and activities all across New York City for the whole family. 

On Saturday, May 23rd, from noon – 5 pm, there is the APPI Month Crafting and Maker’s Market. At Essex Market, 88 Essex St, Lower East Side. All ages welcome and free admission. Make your own pipe cleaner flower, decorate Heart of Dinner grocery bags for AAPI elders, and shop small to win prizes. 

Pop-Up Science: AAPI-Inspired Mini Moai Sculptures at Macomb’s Bridge Library, 2633 Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. Blvd., Harlem on Friday, May 29th from 3 to 5 pm for ages 5-12 with free admission. Participate in this hands-on STEAM activity to create mini Moai sculptures. 

Cooking by the Book at the Bronx Children’s Museum, 725 Exterior St., 2nd Floor, Mott Haven, on Saturday, May 23rd, from 10 am – 1 pm and 2 – 5 pm for ages 3-8. Admission will be $8-$14. Celebrate AAPINH month with a fun tea party, and enjoy a reading of “Luli and the Language of Tea” with author Andrea Wang.

The AAPI Night Market will be at Barclays Center, 620 Atlantic Ave., Prospect Heights, on Wednesday, May 20th at 6 pm for all ages, and admission is free.  Celebrate with complimentary food from local vendors, performances, kids’ activities, and more. 

Hao Bang Ah! Horse! With Chinese Theater Works at Sunnyside Library, 43-06 Greenpoint Ave., Long Island City on Thursday, May 21st from 4 – 5 pm for all ages and free admission. “Hao Bang Ah!” is a common Chinese expression meaning “great!” or “well done!” Enjoy the variety show of Chinese Budaixi hand puppets, horse-themed skits, songs, and dance with the whole family.
