It’s election day today, and millions across the country are going to vote. You may think, “My single vote isn’t going to change anything in the sea of millions,” but you’re wrong. Your vote matters; it contributes to your community, and your community contributes to your state. Your state contributes to the nation, and the nation picks the president.
Yes, your community could primarily consist of people of a different political party, but any state or district can change given enough voters. Voting isn’t over, and people predict Texas is going to vote blue for the first time in decades.
On average, 15 million potential voters aged 18-24 abstain from voting for various reasons, but this significant number of individuals has the potential to influence any election, from changing the color of a district to even determining the outcome of the presidential race.
We also don’t educate potential voters on how to register to vote, and we restrict vote registration limits to 10 days before the actual voting day.
There are plenty of ways to figure out how to register to vote, but not everyone’s going to know how unless the country advertises how to vote and register to vote. There’s online voting, mail-in voting, and in-person voting. There are multiple ways for people to vote within minutes.
Your vote is counted among millions to decide how your state and country will function in the future. Every time there is a 49 to 51 percent vote on either side, we are constantly split down the middle.
Again, your vote matters. It’s a tight race; voter turnout this year may be the largest in history.
Please go vote. I understand some people don’t want to involve themselves in politics, but these politics control the world around you and the livelihoods of you and all of the other people in your community. Voting at all helps put a stance on what you think is right, and people will appreciate the effort.
