Texas Democratic governor candidate Beto O’Rourke Tweeted on Sunday afternoon (Aug. 28) that he will be postponing in-person events related to his campaign after being hospitalized for a bacterial infection.
As of today (Aug. 24), Hall of Famer Len Dawson of Kansas City Chiefs fame has sadly passed away at the age of 87. He was put into hospice care on Aug. 12. Len Dawson’s family shared a statement with KMBC, a Kansas city news station where Dawson had worked in his second career as a broadcast analyst for the Chiefs: “With wife Linda at his side, it is with much sadness that we inform you of the passing of our beloved Len Dawson. He was a wonderful husband, father, brother and friend. Len was always grateful and many times overwhelmed by the countless bonds he made during his football and broadcast careers.
Later today (Wed. Aug. 24) at 2:15 EST, President Joe Biden will make an unprecedented announcement covering a new plan for federal student loan relief. Here’s what we know so far. In a Tweet made this morning, Biden wrote: “In keeping with my campaign promise, my Administration is announcing a plan to give working and middle class families breathing room as they prepare to resume federal student loan payments in January 2023. I’ll have more details this afternoon.”

If you thought ‘Game of Thrones’ was undefeatable atop its own viewership throne, you may change your mind now that a new contender has risen up. According to HBO, its ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel series ‘House of the Dragon’ drew in a staggering 10 million viewers across all of its platforms on Sunday (Aug. 21), exceeding expectations and making it the most-watched TV series premiere in all of HBO’s history.
In the aftermath of the FBI’s Aug. 8 raid of Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago property in Miami, Florida, the ex-president has decided to turn the event into a rallying cause and fundraising opportunity for his supporters. A recent lawsuit was filed by Trump against the Justice Department on the grounds that his constitutional rights were violated during the court-authorized search of his Florida resort, from which the FBI has seized more than 300 documents that were stashed there–many of them classified.

Another year, another iPhone launch–at least according to people with knowledge on Apple’s plans, who report that Apple is supposedly aiming to hold a launch event for its newest line of iPhone 14 products on September 7, according to Bloomberg. As is common for these launch events, they plan on introducing not just the iPhone 14 itself, but a whole array of products that will include everything from new Mac models, both low-end and premium iPads, and three new Apple Watch models. Following protocols that have been in place since the pandemic, the launch event is being pre-recorded and streamed online; however, some in-person members of the media may be present during the presentation.
In line with past interdisciplinary endeavors that have spanned from fashion to the visual arts, Solange Knowles has made a new–and historic–foray into the world of ballet music. The New York City Ballet announced on Monday (Aug. 15) via Twitter that the “A Seat at the Table” singer is set to compose an original score for their chamber ensemble. The commissioned piece, still untitled, will be choreographed by dancer and choreographer Giana Reisen and will premiere at the NYCB’s 10th annual Fashion Gala on September 28. Solange’s score will be performed by the City Ballet Orchestra and a soloist from her very own ensemble, according to a Tweet she made in which she was “very excited” to share the news.
